I was surprised to stumble across an article speaking to a long debate on whether architecture is considered art. I mean, it had never been a question in my mind. When looking at some of the stunning structures that are legendary for their style and aesthetic pleasure, I find it a very weak debate. But I may be biased.
I’ve been searching (enjoying every second of it) for mesmerizing places to explore. Places that photographers can find perfect settings for their many visions.
This month I hope I’ve found a sweet spot for a backdrop, a date night, or an adventure. The Da Vinci Gardens is a peaceful place with so much to explore. So far, I’ve discovered a gorgeous ballroom that made me feel like I was walking through a Baroque painting. Then after flying around the tall castle towers, I landed to find a dragon waiting to take me for a ride and battle with other dragons flying around. And when I fell off the dragon, as one tends to do, I dove into an underwater city full of colorful fish with more buildings to discover.
There is also a pirate ship, three connecting tropical sandy island beaches… and a rocket launch pad. The list is much longer which means lots of areas for creative shots or romantic moments!
Virtual photography is fast becoming it’s own respected art form. In our lifetimes, it’s possible that we may see CGI images in museums nestled comfortably between famous masterpieces. I’m sure many find that a far-fetched idea but most novel art forms have been historically disparaged. Consider Realism, the dominant style of painting since the Renaissance. Realists cringed and scoffed at Impressionism. And the Painterly style – which placed paint into the amateur hands of the masses – with the metal paint tube. But art does not belong to the elite – or even the highly skilled. I subscribe to the ideal that art is an act of human expression and connection – for all.
I believe that photogs in SL and are taking part in the emergence of an art form that represents our modern curiosities. CGI makes the creation of art more accessible, and access is almost entirely unrelated to race, gender, location, education, and ability. This idea of equality, sharing and friendship are the core foundational values of FOCUS Gallery and Magazine. Our goal is to acknowledge each individual’s contribution, to share experience, and to encourage others to find their own voice in photography within a helpful and kind community. Lofty ideas, I know! But we make it happen every day we participate.
It’s an absolute pleasure when I come across a gem in my wandering travels or suggested by anyone that knows how much I love getting lost in a place or time I’ve never seen. A reminder of what makes this world so very special. Giving access to culture, art, music, and many other things that we don’t always have the privilege to experience. So, when I see places like the breathtaking Basilique, I cannot help but want to support its owner Niccoli Sweetwater who is actively bringing another world to my fingertips.
The first thing I noticed was the grand church modeled after the San Pietro Martire which was built in 1348 in honor of St. John the Evangelist. A lovely place for an inworld wedding. Immaculately detailed all the way to down to the art on the chapel walls.
There is so much more to see and do like the Hot Springs where I see myself spending some time, a bathhouse for relaxing, and a cozy bar to enjoy with friends. Perfect for a quick getaway with hidden places for intimate play as well. I hope to see you there for a chat and glass of wine or a stroll through the art gallery. Salute!
