F.A.I.R. – FOCUS’s Artist in Residence Program

Curator: Cesar Lighthouse

An artist in residency program at FOCUS is meant to be a unique opportunity for an artist to exhibit in a stress-free environment where the artist has more freedom of expression than in a traditional exhibit. Participating artists have free-reign to produce whatever form of photography they choose – any subject, style, or method – with the guarantee of a space of their own for a month, no questions asked. The single boundary is that the art must be within our moderate guidelines (no genitals, violence or partisan politics), though sometimes exceptions are made. What makes an artist residency at FOCUS distinctive is that artists can use this exhibit space to express anything they want about themselves. Artists are given about 100 prims to rez photos and props to transform the entire room into a fully immersive introduction to themselves and their art. We host newer artists but often host seasoned exhibitors as well. A residency is not dependent on your skill level – no one can be too new or too advanced. The point is to help people “see” each art through the exhibit. We have had exhibits from animal farms to upside-down fairy landscapes to pitch black walls. An artist has the freedom for self-expression. This self-expression can lead to new ideas and experiences for the artist, as well as fresh inspiration for onlookers. If you would like to be on the list of residence recruits, please send a notecard to Cesar Lighthouse.
