FEBRUARY ISSUE OF FOCUS MAGAZINE IS PUBLISHED! READ YOURS INWORLD OR ON THE WEB PAGE!

I always write the Editor’s Note when I have finished with the month’s entire issue so I have a broad — and final — idea of what it holds. And WOW… This is another astonishing issue that is PACKED with incredible information about art, people, music, love, life, education and HOPE!

This month we have Rage Darkstorm and Terra Merhyem! When I say their names, I half expect to hear applause follow! I mentioned in the December issue how I chatted a bit with Bryn Oh and, while I felt a bit intimidated, she turned out to be the coolest, nicest, down-to-earth person! The same thing happened when I met Rage and Terra. As soon as we met, they were both so engaging and fun that an hour and a half flew by. Terra even thanked me for showcasing them in our “prestigious” gallery and magazine. I’m not sure a higher compliment can be given for this love’s labor.

Also, featured is Kent Nowicka. I met him yeeears ago when he invited me to his studio to take my photo. The photo never happened but he stayed on my friends list! And this is a reason why people should not clear out their friends lists. A few years later, we began seeing each other more often and then, what seems like a natural transition, he let me know he would like to teach a workshop! In his interview, we learn where his creativity stems from and also a bit about his interesting life!

There is also an incredible amount to see in this issue including OBR photos, feature articles and, last but not least, VALENTINE’S DAY CLASSIFIEDS!!!

Enjoy everyone! See you next month!

FOCUS NOVEMBER MAGAZINE IS HERE!!!

In my hand lays the NEW ISSUE OF FOCUS MAGAZINE…IT IS SO FRECH THE INK IS STILL WET! GET IT HERE!

October was a pretty rough month in general. And then we lost a dear friend and group member, Kat Vargas, to complications with Covid. Many of us knew her well and for many years. She played a vitally supportive role in the music community. She will be missed.

I think one of the perplexing things about the death of a loved one is that life keeps on going, even though it may feel like it shouldn’t. The world has changed, but time keeps running as fast as ever, without looking back.

And events like these remind us that we need to recognize and be grateful for what we have — and have had — right now. Time will not wait. If we love someone, we have to say it now. If we find ourselves speaking or acting in a damaging way toward a loved one, put things in perspective and apologize now. Second chances may seem endless, until one day they stop forever.

And so, here we are, about to celebrate another Thanksgiving holiday in America. Worldwide, not many people are feeling particularly grateful. As a result, depression and suicide are rising. Abuse and neglect too. But I implore YOU, dear reader, to “count your blessings.” I don’t want to sound preachy or naïve but, my friends, we all have the choice to look at the good aspects of life, or not.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
― Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

So, this issue is a bit late but it’s jam-packed and I promise every page is a worthwhile read.. In it we celebrate friends, family, and tons and tons of creativity, from galleries to weddings to photography and Matt’s Rant is back! I hope you enjoy it!

AUGUST ISSUE OF FOCUS MAGAZINE

Welcome to the August issue of FOCUS Magazine! We have lots of happiness with zero social distancing at FOCUS this month!

We have two very talented featured artists this issue. First is Alsatian Kidd, a long time group member and owner of Green Acres scenic sim. He shares with us a few tricks of his artistic trade and a bit about the “Old Dog” himself. Also, we have Jamee Sandalwood-Thomson, — newly wed to our “Rant” writer, Matt (who, incidentally, is still honeymooning so he took the month off!). Jamee has her hands full with events this time of year, so we are proud to shine the bright FOCUS light on someone who does so much good for our community! Next, Patrick debuts a new article this month called “Ireland of Dreams.” He plans to choose a photo once per month, and give it a critical analysis. I totally volunteered him for this and I’m finally putting his doctorate to good use for us!

Lastly, we have a slew of very cool events coming up. We have Basilique on the 15th, White Mask on the 16th, our next photo contest AND [drumroll] Cesar and I have birthdays coming up! Every year for the past 4 years, I have asked friends to share with me a picture of something simple that they see on an average day that makes them happy. Every year we get more and more pics, and I set up a “happiness walk” to showcase everyone’s pics on easels. And BELIEVE me, it’s overwhelming to see all of the things that make our friends happy. And this year, we are adding Cesar to the party! His b-day is right around September 1st too!So, if you would like to participate, please send your happy pics to Angelathespian (me). And if your b-day is anywhere near 9/1… PLEASE let me know so we can celebrate YOU TOO! See you in September!
