This is interesting… “Purely AI-generated art cannot be copyrighted by US courts.” So does that mean that if you take an AI-generated image and alter it in any way, it can be copyrighted? Any thoughts?

The FOCUS Photography Fair is almost here!

THE SEPTEMBER FOCUS PHOTOGRAPHY 2023 FAIR will begin on September 8th at 6pm SLT, until September 22nd! It’s the first ever fair that is geared directly toward photographers’ needs in SL. The Photography Fair offers our virtual photography community all the tools that photographers need and want to facilitate and inspire creativity! From tools, to props, to backdrops, to poses — YOU WILL FIND IT HERE! We will also have workshops and classes available throughout the fair. As soon as the schedule it complete it will be posted here.

Happy World VIRTUAL Photography Day!

Hi everyone! Happy World VIRTUAL Photography Day – August 20th! The theme this year is “understanding clouds” and that’s also the theme of our monthly photo contest. Photos are due on August 23rd. It’s not easy to understand clouds in virtual worlds but possible! Check out a few of my own creations from today. Have a great day everyone and an artful week ahead!

WORLD VIRTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

The WORLD VIRTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAY is a global community sharing and appreciating virtual photography from around the world! WVPD  is the global celebration of all types of photography, but each year, we also have an optional theme to focus on. The 2023 theme is “UNDERSTANDING CLOUDS.” Along with any other photos you planned on sharing on World Virtual Photography Day this year, feel free to share the best photos you’ve taken of landscapes, and don’t forget to tag #WorldVirtualPhotographyDay and on the social media platform of your choice. Spread the word!

Companies begin exploring the AI multiverse

With the costs of large language models and generative AI platforms coming down, companies are beginning to explore highly focused systems that can answer questions to specific, niche topics. We explore the pros and cons of this approach with Lawrence Spracklen, senior technical advisor at Numenta.

FOCUS Magazine Photo Contest for August!

The theme for World Virtual Photography Day this year is “Understanding Clouds.” So I thought it might be nice for us to celebrate it with our monthly contest! So the theme is…. CLOUDS! And whatever that means to you creatively. It’s a tough one but you can do it! The clouds have to be genuine in-game clouds but can be touched up in PS or whatever.

Photos are due August 23rd and the Voting Event will take place on August 25th at 6pm. Photos must be moderate. One entry per person. Please drop your photos off in the MAILBOX in front of the FOCUS building. Click here for a landmark.
Prizes for the judges’ winners are 1st Place 1000L, 2nd Place 750L, and 3rd Place 500L.
